Media Hub - Gracenote’s internal image tool 2022-2024

I led the UI design for Gracenote’s image repository used by a global team of editors. As part of a strong cross-functional team we reinvented image processing at Gracenote, having a significant positive impact on the business and winning us the Arthur C Nielsen Award, Nielsen’s highest employee award. But we didn’t stop there, we continued to evolve and innovate to develop the most intuitive and efficient UI workflows that support both the business and the editors that use the tool every day.

Nielsen Fan Insights for Nielsen Sports - 2020

From the ground up design of a (then) new product allowing businesses to view fan insights to make business and sponsorship decisions. Powered by a complex set of survey data, the UI had to make it simple and easy for customers to understand and make decisions. The UI is based on a sophisticated set of filters, easy to understand graphics and an intuitive (and quite cool) drag and drop report builder.

About

Solving the hard problems through design

With 15+ years experience solving the hard problems, I lead cross-functional teams through complexity and transformation. I have worked in design agencies, in-house at Intuit and Gracenote as well as on my own as a contractor.

Recently, I have been focused on B2B products and internal tools, leading teams through change — technical debt to modern, AI-driven tools, reinventing the user experience along the way. My approach is collaborative, cross-functional and delivers impact for the business, while creating an intuitive experience for the user.

What people say

I had the privilege to work with Kathi on Gracenote Works, a data product for music rights management. In a very short amount of time, Kathi gained a great grasp on the unique problems, complex data structure, multiple user segments and their use cases. She quickly produced wireframe, prototype and visual design for the data viewer and editor for us. Every time she showed her design to the team, we all got so excited and sparked productive conversations. Advocating for users, she was always thoughtful and intentional throughout every decision making, while staying flexible around any constraints we had to work with.

Kathi had done an amazing job for us at PowerReviews. With little ramp up time, Kathi was able to come up with interaction and visual designs that were elegant yet simple and easy to use. One of the things that impresses me most about Kathi is that she has always been able to back up her design decisions with well thought out reasoning. On the flip side, she has never been wedded to anything she produces and is willing to adjust and make changes as different ideas are presented. We would have had to hire a visual designer, interaction designer and usability specialist to cover the skills Kathi brought to the table.

Arthur C. Nielsen Award

2022

Each year, the Arthur C. Nielsen Award is granted to a select group of the company’s most outstanding employees. Historically, the Arthur C. Nielsen Award is the most coveted and highest profile recognition a Nielsen employee can receive. The award was given to the Media Hub team for our ability to work cross functionally to build key tools to support internal employees and save the company $600k. This was a great honor as a UX designer to improve the professional experience of our colleagues.
